Artist Statement

Since my early visits to the Chicago Art Institute I have wanted to make marks on flat surfaces. I use brush, pen, charcoal, crayon, a stick. I celebrate nature, organic forms, the human figure, and objects that people handle, eat, smell, use, and admire.

I enjoy the danger of responding directly to the subject, sloshing and scratching, striving for a luminous wash or an arresting outline. I hope to hint at the beauty, mystery, pathos and frailty of the world around us.
