A Community Funded Visual Arts Grant Program

The Haines & Friends Fund offers grants to southern Oregon artists and arts educators in support of the creation of artistic projects and/or art education, which might include original and new works of private and public art. The use of grant funds may include, but are not limited to, supplies, equipment and personal expenses of the artist and/or education.

Individuals interested in supporting the visual arts may choose to contribute funds toward this grant program. Any and all amounts are greatly appreciated. Checks, cash, or credit cards are accepted. You may mail your check to Ashland Art Center, call the Art Center and use a credit card over the phone, or walk into our facility and hand your gift to the artist on shift at the front counter.

2016 APPLICATION GUIDELINES AND FAQs

  • The Haines & Friends Fund offers grants to southern Oregon artists and arts educators in support of the creation of artistic projects and/or art education, which might include original and new works of private and public art.
  • Use of grant funds may include, but are not limited to, supplies, equipment and personal expenses of the artist and/or education. Applicants should indicate how the funds will improve his/her well being as a creative artist and/or how the project may provide service to members of the community (ex. using art and/or education to help victims of domestic violence, etc.).
  • Applicants should deliver their applications to Ashland Art Center at 357 East Main Street in Ashland, Oregon during operating hours from 10am to 6pm any day of the week.
  • Applicants may apply for grants that range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Application submissions will be accepted no later than 5pm on Wednesday, June 15th, 2016 at Ashland Art Center’s front desk.
  • Awards will be announced no later than Thursday, September 1st, 2016.
  • Grant reports on projects are due no later than Friday, January 6th, 2017. These reports are required in order to participate in the annual Awardees Exhibit.
  • Finalization of projects will take place on or before First Friday on March 3rd, 2017.
  • Art and other projects will be included in an annual share/exhibit to be held First Friday, March 3rd from 5pm to 8pm and Saturday, March 4th from 11am to 3pm, location to be determined.
  • Artists applying should submit an Artist Grant Application located at Ashland Art Center or download the PDF above.
  • The Artist Grant Application will request the following information: Please submit FIVE complete, unbound packets of the following (all documents printed two-sided whenever possible):
    • Cover Letter (REQUIRED) – one page on 8 1⁄2″ x 11″ paper, one side, font size pt. 12.
    • Artist Statement (optional) – one page on 8 1⁄2″ x 11″ paper, one side, font size pt. 12.
    • Resume/Curriculum Vitae (optional) – one page on 8 1⁄2″ x 11″ paper, please make double sided whenever possible.
    • Project Proposal (REQUIRED) – No more than two pages, please make double sided, on 8 1/2″ x 11″ paper, font size pt. 12.
    • Budget (REQUIRED) – one page on 8 1⁄2″ x 11″ paper, one side, font size pt. 12.
    • OPTIONAL! ARTISTS MAY SUBMIT UP TO FOUR IMAGES OF THEIR ARTWORK. PLEASE HAVE ANY IMAGES PRINTED ONTO 8 1⁄2″ X 11″ PAPER, DOUBLE SIDED, AND BE SURE TO INCLUDE IMAGES WITH EACH PACKET (UNBOUND). IMAGES MAY BE COLOR OR BLACK AND WHITE.

Please include FIVE UNBOUND PACKETS of the following documents. Please have documents printed on two-sides whenever possible.

Cover Letter (REQUIRED) – one page on 8 ½” x 11″ paper, one side, font size pt. 12. A cover letter stating for what specific purpose you require funds and in what amount (grants range from $1,000 to $5,000). Indicate how the funds you seek will improve your well being as a creative artist and/or how your project will provide service to members of the community (ex. using art and/or education to help victims of domestic violence, etc.). Explain how this grant might advance your artistic career, arts education in our region and/or well being as a creative artist. Your name must be included on this document.

Artist Statement (optional) – one page on 8 ½” x 11″ paper, one side, font size pt. 12. If you would like to supplement your application with a one-page statement describing you and/or your work, please do so.

Resume/Curriculum Vitae (optional) – one page on 8 ½” x 11″ paper, may be double sided if applicable.

Project Proposal (REQUIRED) – no more than two pages, must be double sided, on 8 ½” x 11″ paper, font size pt. 12. Please attach a narrative of your project proposal that might enable us to fully understand your vision and goals.

Budget (REQUIRED) – one page on 8 ½” x 11″ paper, one side, font size pt. 12.

Images (optional) – you may submit up to four images of your artwork. Please have images printed onto 8 ½” x 11″ paper, in color or black/white, double sided onto two pages of paper.
